Feeling Off in January?

Here’s your mid-month energy reset (no “New Year, New Me” required).

Gloved hands hold a pink candle labeled "DON'T BURN OUT" against a white background. Gold rings and delicate, sheer fabric add elegance.

January has a weird personality... The world expects you to be reborn, colour-coded, and smashing goals by the 2nd… while your nervous system is still processing December like it was a group project you didn’t sign up for.

So if you’ve been feeling flat, foggy, emotional, irritated, or just… energetically gross lately... you’re likely overstimulated + overdue for a reset.

Here are five simple practices to clear your energy, calm your system, and come back to yourself (without needing to perform "New Year > New Me" vibes, or fake being “positive.”)

Why January can feel heavy (even when everything is “fine”)

This month often brings an adrenaline drop.

After weeks of socialising, travelling, spending, performing, explaining yourself, and being around other people’s moods… your body finally gets a quiet moment and goes:

“Cool... Now we’re going to feel everything.”

That can look like:

  • low motivation

  • brain fog

  • emotional sensitivity

  • irritation or anger out of nowhere

  • feeling like you want to hide under a duvet and never speak again

A reset isn’t a luxury... It’s maintenance.

1) Choose your circle wisely (or choose your recovery wisely)

Sometimes “energy protection” isn’t sage. Its boundaries, spacing, and choosing who gets access to you when you’re raw.

Try this check-in:

  • Do I feel expanded after seeing them… or depleted?

  • Do I feel safe to be myself… or like I’m performing?

  • Do I leave feeling more grounded… or like my brain is buzzing?

You don’t need to cut everyone off... but you do need to stop acting surprised when your body reacts to people who drain you.

2) The 3-minute “clear my field” reset (when you feel energetically gross)

This is for when you want a reset, but you don’t have time for an hour-long ritual and a personality change.

Do this:

  1. Sit down. Both feet on the floor.

  2. Inhale slowly through your nose… exhale through your mouth.

  3. Visualise a warm white light above your head.

  4. Let it move through your body (head, throat, chest, stomach, hips, legs) like a gentle rinse.

  5. On the exhale, imagine anything heavy leaving your body and field.

Do 10 slow breaths.

This works because you’re interrupting the stress loop and telling your nervous system, 'We're safe now.'

3) Salt bath/shower cleanse (aka: energetic detox + nervous system sedative)

Salt is a staple for a reason. It’s grounding and clearing, and it helps you stop carrying energy that isn’t yours.

If you can bath:

  • hot water

  • a generous handful of sea salt / Epsom salt

  • optional: a few drops of lavender oil

If you can’t bath:

  • a salt scrub in the shower

  • or even a salt hand soak while you breathe (yes, it counts)

If January is bringing money stress, comparison spirals, or that “I’m so behind” feeling then this is especially powerful.

When your body calms down, your mind stops catastrophising!

4) Get outside and let the earth do what it does best

The Earth is the original nervous system regulator. You don’t have to make it weird... just simply try one of these:

  • a 10-minute walk with your phone on silent

  • sitting against a tree (yes, really)

  • bare feet on grass/sand if you can

And if you do hug a tree… I support you. I’m also going to laugh lovingly, because that’s my job.

5) Sound + energy work (when you need the “proper” reset)

Sometimes you don’t need another journal prompt or Pinterest Vision Board... Sometimes you just need your system to actually shift state.

Sound healing, Reiki, and energy work can be powerful because they:

  • calm the body

  • clear energetic “static”

  • help you come back to yourself

  • restore a sense of inner safety (which is the real flex)

If you feel stuck, heavy, or like your emotions are louder than your logic, it’s more often than not simply because your system is overloaded.

A simple truth before you go...

You don’t need to force a whole fresh start. You just need to create enough space for your energy to return to you.

That’s where your clarity, your motivation and your "I'm back" feeling come from.

And if all you do this week is drink water, take a walk, and stop entertaining energy that drains you… congratulations.

That is the work.
